As the government has launched a new hiring scheme in the Armed forces with the name Agnipath, it has brought around a lot of chaos and confusion where some citizens are in support while many others are criticizing. Criticism is mainly due to the issues of short tenure and lack of basic perks, pension and privileges which in general come along when a soldier serves in the armed forces. Let's discuss what exactly this employment scheme is, why there is a controversy, why the government has implemented this scheme and the other undiscussed details associated with this scheme.

    I appreciate the effort of this man.he has explained the merits and demarit very decently.tje government has introduced Agni path scheme primarily to save the money wasted on pension and other retirement benefits given to retiring soldiers.there were many methods to save the money for modernization of technology and weapons systems.for example MPs and MLAs are enjoying multiple pension.apart from pension they are availing medical treatment even in foreign countries telephone allowance air travel facilities train traveling facilities for self and family.saving some money curtailing the pension of jawans who have committed their lives for the defence of the country appears to be destructive step.this single step can weaken our defence of the country.

    Here's my two cents on this Agnipath recruitment. 1) I agree that many join Govt services for retirement benefits, pensions, etc. So four-year services and then out again looking for a job might not sound appealing. Having said this = the might Indian armed forces should not be treated as money-making sources. It is an utmost honorable job which people join voluntarily. When it's voluntary - I believe people put their personal benefits aside and then look for our Nation and not personal gains. People who are not fine should look into state-level mediocre jobs and settle there for their lifetime. 2) The demand for the present situation is to counter enemy nations like China & Pak. We can't afford to have average soldiers who are age 35+ or more fighting the war. We need that young blood who can defend our country. So the person who joins the army at the age of 20 and serves the army or armed forces will reach an age of 24 or plus when such persons complete their four-year services. Still young and capable to join the mainstream regular jobs be it in govt provided or public sectors. 3) I don't agree completes with the soldiers joining just the security guard jobs. I have seen plenty of folks who served in the armed forces. I personally know a parachute regiment army person deployed in the Jammu and Kasmir who just neutralized a militant working for higher management IT services company after he retried from the army. So generalizing it is not an ideal way to represent it. 4) People who oppose will not join this Agnipath recruitment and who are looking for an opportunity even if it's for four years will definitely join.

    The main drawback of Agnipath scheme is that the high officials of armed forces as well as the government officials failed to highlight it’s importance. 1. First, it it not a job but a TRAINING of four years where one will get posted only on successful completion and passing the criteria of selection. 2. Unlike any other training in the world, in this training, post it’s completion one will get around 22-25 lacs in hand (11 lac fixed plus yearly salary) at the age of 21. 3. An Agniveer certificate, which will prove beneficial if one goes for any job in the country. Like if you have a BTech plus Agniveer certificate you will be given preference in all jobs. 4. If you want to be an officer and join NDA, Agniveer will help you in providing you that initial overview and army experience.

    One thing you also have cleverly ignored that with this scheme the overall coverage has increased. Earlier out of 1 lac only 20k candidates used to get selected and rest 80k were going empty hand. Now, atleast 46k would get a chance along with handsome salary.

    This video has done an excellent job in explaining the shortcomings of this scheme . I am sure the government means well , but to spend a substantial amount of tax payers money to train soldiers and then release them into normal society it’s grossly unfair . In the west , retired soldiers find very hard to get accustomed to the civilian life after leaving the army . Moreover , these young men are putting their lives at risk & as there is no provision for their family members in the event of them losing life , it comes across as a cheap solution to reduce unemployment . These sort of schemes can work in the corporate sector , but in the army there is so much investment by the government as well as the recruit , soldiers should be allowed to stay in the army ‘till they retire. It’s beggars belief that vain actors can earn millions & the real army HEROES are paid pittance for their life . Nitish - you need to be lauded for putting your point across so eloquently .

    Disability pension is given to physical injured soldier after agneepath will ur Mahindra take a physically disable as security guard why only soldiers pension is burden for u when mp/MLA's selected for 5 yrs get lifetime pension . Why they have no medical test written test for mla post. Who will decide 25% for permanent service only chamchas will be taken.     This is summary. If interested please read the detailed English version below. If the aim of government is cost cutting, saving on pension, reduction of maximum age of the soldiers and retention of only the best for modern war fare this is what government should do : 1. No direct recruitment for Agniveers 2. Take police constables from all the states' police force on deputation as candidates 3. Retain the best as Agniveers (after thorough training for all the candidates for 4 years) 4. Send back to the police force of states the unsuccessful candidates ( with a good bonus) who would have received advanced training and so then they would be more useful to all the states' police forces. The states will be more than happy to take them back and armed forces also will be able to recall them in case of any emergency later. 5. However Centre should give to the states 50 percent salary of returned Agniveer candidates as this would reduce the burden on states. However if this is still a burden we should consider 1:3 ratio (Absorbed to Total candidates ) in recruitment 6. Finally centre would also benefit by this scheme as states' salary scales are lower than central scales . (Also there is no need to pay higher than current regular soilder's salary for Agniveer candidates ( as they will be assured of their earlier police constable job in their home state). This will be a big savings for governments both centre and states. ) 7. Tax payer will also be benefitted as his money will not be wasted recklessly - i.e. not squandered 8. In this scenario Armed forces need not worry about unsuccessful candidates' future 9. Lastly the ultimate goal of AFs Armed forces will be met . AFs will have more money for weapons with the best young soldiers and a lean force. Another important point to note is there will not be any gap or discontinuty between regular soilders and the Agniveers. (However many ex-AFs persons have expressed concern on the short duration training of Agniveers which should be looked into. Also is the student to trainer ratio too high ?). In proposed scheme there is another benefit to the states (and to the nation) . There will be better representation ( in AFs) of all states unlike now. So in future AFs will be owned up by the entire country and not just by a few states. Further it will help the AFs to eventually do away with the cast based regimental system created by the Britishers. Mainly this proposition is benefit to the aggrieved candidates as they will have a job on hand and unlike in the government's present scheme they will not be simply laid off. Also only those who like AFs' life can willingly continue and the rest can seek better future of their choice. This is win win win win win ( Centre, States, AFs, Candidates and Tax Payer ) for everybody. However Government and armed forces chiefs should give up their ego and accept this solution in the interest of our nation instead of doing some patch work i.e. assurance of reservation here there and in some in AFs' contactor private companies. Government must consider extension of the above scheme to officers of AFs also i.e. police sub inspector from all states may be taken on deputation for 4 years and select the best. Please note that I have not suggested dilution of standards in selection. (Note : The above suggestion doesn't apply to non-combat roles. For example say mechanical: Repairing army vehicles. Also in the case of non-combat roles there is a big mistake in the eligibility criteria. For non-combat roles ITI or better diploma holders should be considered as eligibile and not 10 or 12th class pass outs. Further the physical fitness requirements should be less than that of combat roles for obvious reasons. Armed forces should take a decision whether it can maintain it's equipments on it's own or would subcontract it to public or private companies. In any case in non-combat work laying them off after 4 years doesn't make sense . Further they should be recruited based on separate technical test . Also for Tradesmen i.e. Clerks and Store Keepers the eligibility should be 12th Class with Maths, Commerce and Computer as mandatory subjects. These issues needs further thoughts and discussions.)

    The reality of 10% reservation is :- CAPF entry is known as SSC gd and it used to conduct once in 3 years and the no vacancies are 25000 And the 10% is 2500 That means 2500 will be engaged in CAPF where the no of agniveer is 103500 in 3 years

    @Danish Qureshi It can to large extent, but it requires same rules for everyone. Without relenting on the someone's religious or personal affiliations. Centrism works when the institutional identity reigns Supreme and is the work currently being done in the form of secular nationalism. Now there are two approaches to it, one is the liberal secular idea that comes from UK and the other one is Laicite from france. For centrism to work laicite is the more practical approach which discourages expression of non institutional personal affiliations at public places.

    @Nimu and @52_Ronin Your concerns are appreciable for a) govt to save money by kicking them out of armed services to make them CIVILIANS without any of the benefits except nearly 12 Lacs. b) army to buy advance technology and weapon; and to hire young workers who can, specially, deal with high attitudinal weather conditions those invite the diseases like high altitude pulmonary oedema, acute mountain sickness, frost bite chilblains, hypothermia, snow blindness, avalanches etc. and (c) soldiers who may be hardly complete their secondary and senior secondary classes and are not interested in their higher studies. Our teachers usually say that hard work between 16-21 yrs will make your rest of the life easy to live because your education during the time will nourish your whole life. Moreover, armed forces are the highest needing bravery sectors those demand sacrifice with lives sometimes. But, insecurity in job might lead them to flatter their officers, bring arrogance in officers, make groupism, jealousy, frustration and future insecurity without education are some of the issues will trouble them. To solve these issues Govt can give some benefits after job like security of job in civil sector, free medical aid etc.

    @Ethereal Aurora If you were following defence news then you will. The army was trying to bring new scheme for a very long time. Government you say? yeah government had a hand but without army's approval this wouldn't have never implemented. Many high level talked about new scheme for quite a while until it was finally implemented. This is to reduce pension burden and to equip under equipped soldiers.

    @Ethereal Aurora see things are different when people follow you, if you see Mr. Nishant's followers, they get perspective from him, hence it becomes very much important to cover every minute detail, the era now is such , people dont have time to go through 4 pages of policies on Agnipath, they would rather spend 18 mins on video while travelling , while in the loo and all and in 18 mins someone says something it doesnt provide ample window to that listener to holistically look at the things creating may be a different prespective.

    To be honest I never thought that people join army for job security because in my family those who had joined the Indian army they were always like I have to serve my country but after those violent protests I got to know that some also see army as a job security and to be honest I was disappointed . But I am with the army aspirants ,I won't say revoke the agnipath scheme as we do need reforms but I do want government to give the written assurance to those 75% agniveers that they will get the job when they will join the main stream.More modern weapons, less soldiers, less casualties this is what I think .Because whenever I watch a news of our soldiers martyr its make me sad and hurts me a lot but if this scheme can stop or minimize the casualties then I am all good with this even my brother is preparing to become an agniveer. And I am happy for him.

    There is a lot of information that this video did talk about. One thing I didn’t hear him say was how after the agniveer, soldiers that leave will be given high priority in joining corporate offices. Also, the majority of the ugly views are journey in non-combat roles such as mechanics for airplanes fueling and other stuff like that. So it is a great analysis but I feel there’s some information that’s a little lacking or I should say biased.
